Sr. Content Strategist

1105 Media's Government Information Group provides information, insight and analysis for the Government IT and Education IT (FED/SLED) sectors, as well as coverage of federal employee news and issues.  Our content platforms include print, digital, online, events and a broad spectrum of marketing services.

We are currently searching for a Senior Content Strategist to join our Government Information team. The Sr. Content Strategist oversees all editorial activities for print and online custom content and leads the strategy for event content in the 1105 Government Information Group. Responsibilities include: providing editorial direction on projects and events; writing, assigning and editing content; managing contributing writers and editors; and moderating webcasts and event panels as needed. This position works in tandem with the Chief Marketing Officer and Director of Client Services to keep projects and events on track to meet deadlines with customer objectives at the forefront.  Strong writing skills, good project management and time-management skills, ability to learn our product quickly, critical thinking, creativity, copy-editing ability and an eye for detail are requirements. It is a fast-paced environment and a great opportunity for the right candidate.

Essential Job Functions:
 
- Ensuring all projects reflect editorial integrity and quality established by our brands
- Ensures market superiority and thought leadership in event series
- Must be creative and agile in meeting client demands
- Work with clients and program management team on topic selections and webcast abstract development
- Works with clients to establish content strategy for custom events
- Works with internal team to establish content strategy for 1105 GIG branded events
- Oversee the management of freelance writers for custom projects
- Collaborate with clients and internal sales team to build compelling programs to bring to market
- Coordinate with Director of Client Services on scope and deadline of projects
- Manage budget for custom content development
- Manage one person – Custom Editorial Manager
 
The position has two primary components:
 
Content Creation & Management:
 
Assist in development of themes for custom events and custom products
  -  Create Abstracts/Summaries of content
Identify, recruit and manage writers for custom projects
Copy-editing
 - Copy-edit content created for all custom projects
Strong project management – execution, delivery and production

Content Development, Speaker Recruitment & Management:
 
Assist in development of themes for custom events and custom products
  • Custom event overview
  • Research questionnaire
  • Executive interviews
  • Identify, recruit and manage speakers for events/webcasts
  • Assist 3rd party speaker acquisition vendor throughout the speaker acquisition process

Required:
• Bachelor’s degree required (Journalism or Communications preferred)
• 7+ years in content marketing, editing, journalism or other content development capacity
• Knowledge of the government and contracting community
• Excellent writing ability (experience in Federal IT, State & Local Government IT preferred)
• Superb planning and organizational skills
• Ability to work on multiple time-sensitive projects simultaneously
• Exceptional organizational and time-management skills and attention to detail
• Professional written and verbal communication skills
• Negotiation and conflict management skills
• Tactfully deliver information to clients in sometimes challenging and sensitive situations
• Must be a critical thinker and able to problem-solve in a time-sensitive atmosphere
• Works diplomatically with a variety of internal and external departments
• Able to delegate and motivate internal team that do not report to this position


Preferred:
• Experience in government technology field
• Supervisory or leadership experience
• Journalism or Communications degrees preferred
• Project management/coordination experience preferred
